New York State is more than New York City. This large state has other cities, scenic towns, beautiful mountains, lakes, rivers, and waterfalls.
I have traveled all over NY State and have lived in three different regions. I grew up in Syracuse, which is right in the center of the state. I built a life in Brooklyn for 16 years, before moving to the Hudson Valley, an area along the Hudson River that is between NYC and Albany.
I want to start sharing content on this blog about all the great places in NY State that I visit. Before doing that, I thought it would be fun to share more about the state that isn't NYC related.

Those do sounds like wonderful memories Martha! Such great places! It's so true how many people think New York State is just NYC. When I would tell people I was from Syracuse, they thought it was a NYC suburb. Syracuse is like 250 miles away! 😂
I enjoy the idea of talking about NY beyond NYC. I've been to Buffalo, the Niagara Falls and Schenectady - beautiful little town!
I was born and raised in Manhattan and went to school in Rochester, NY. I also lived in Rockland County, I have been all over that state. The slogan they had for many years holds true! I Love NY!
My mother's family is mostly in NYC. Have been there a few times but haven't travelled much in the state of NY. Been to Niagara Falls on the Canadian side. So thanks for your post.
We've spent a fair bit of time in New York State (not surprising since we live an hour from Buffalo). There is so much beauty there. Last year we spent some time in the Finger Lakes and at Watkins Glen. What a treasure!
