In yesterday's blog post, I talked about how New York State is more than just New York City. You can check that post out here if you haven't read it yet.

I live in the Hudson Valley area of New York State, which filled with scenic views of the Hudson River, quaint towns, and beautiful parks. There are so many wonderful places to visit here. I plan to be share more about the various places I visit and encounter on a regular basis.

This past weekend, Eli (my husband) and I were trying to figure out something to do. The weather was nice and we wanted to get in some good walking. Eli found a park we haven't been to before. We have lived in this area for almost 2 years and still discover new places to go visit. The park we went to was Minnewaska State Park Preserve, located in Kerhonkson, NY.

It wasn't far from New Paltz, NY, which is one of my favorite places to frequently visit. We stopped at Main Course Marketplace for lunch. It is a non-vegan spot with some great vegan offerings. We love getting their salads! (I plan to do a separate blog post about New Paltz and our favorite spots there in the future.)

After lunch, we drove the rest of the way to the park. There are two main trails. One goes to Awosting Falls and the other to Lake Minnewaska.

There is a long trail that goes past the waterfall. We did that, turned around and then walked to the lake. There was a center overlooking the lake area where we sat for a little rest and a snack. When walked down to the lake we saw a water snake swim buy. By the time I got my phone out and video on, it had swam out of visibility.

We saw more areas around the lake to walk to and explore. We were really tired at that point and decided to walk to the car and drive to a coffee spot. We plan to go back and explore the lake area more another time. By the time we got back to the car, we did a little over 5 miles of walking (based on my step tracker app).

Here are some more photos from our day:

It was an enjoyable summer afternoon! I feel really lucky that we don't live far from places like this. What are your favorite parks to visit over by where you live? Let me know in the comments below.
