One Of My Favorite Quotes

ree

Today I wanted to share one of my favorite quotes from Judy Garland. "Always be a first-rate version of yourself, instead of a second-rate version of somebody else." As a recovering people-pleaser this quote is an important reminder for me to always keep being myself. That there is more value in just being me, than trying to be like another version of someone else.

When we shrink ourselves down to be like others, it can be emotionally painful. Trying to force yourself to be who you are not deprives you of the joy of just being and exploring who you are authentically.

I used to not know who I truly was, because I grew up believing I needed to be who others wanted me to be in order to be loved and accepted. I experienced true fulfillment, when I finally allowed myself to be and explore my identity. Check out these two blog posts to learn more about that journey.

What is one of your favorite quotes and why? Let me know in the comments.

Oh I love this quote! I guess that is how I have been without realizing there was a quote. I've always been one to do things and be who I am and not worry about what others may say or think. As from my favorite quote is "If you want to seek deeper oceans, you have to leave sight of the shore". All through our decorating business, if someone asked if we could do something, I would always say we can try even if we never did it before. We never know what we are capable of doing if we don't try. We left sight of the shore so many times and every time was a success.

I am finding that it is a journey to get to know ourselves. While I have made a lot of progress I still think there is more to discover. Can't wait to find out more about your journey and read your blogs!

That's a great quote - and good reminder to be our own best selves.

I love Housman's poem which begins, "From far, from eve and morning

"And yon twelve winged sky

"The stuff of life that knit me drew hither

"Here am i!"

I think I love it because it speaks to our origins in stardust, uniqueness and at the same time, connection with all that is
